Madonna hand sculpted – Earrings

In 1531, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to the Aztec Juan Diego on Mount Tepeyac in the north of Mexico City. This was the site of the former temple of the Aztec goddess Tonantzin, who was worshipped as the goddess of fertility.

The figure of the “Virgin of Guadalupe” represents a fusion of the Old and New Worlds and is now one of the most impressive images of the Virgin Mary in the world.

Virgen de Guadalupe erschien im Jahre 1531 dem Azteken Juan Diego auf dem Berg Tepeyac im Norden von Mexiko Stadt. Dort, wo sich ehemals der Tempel der aztekischen Göttin Tonantzin befand, die als Fruchtbarkeitgöttin verehrt wurde.

In der Gestalt der “Jungfrau von Guadalupe” fand eine Verschmelzung der Alten und Neuen Welt statt und ist heute eines der beeindruckendsten Marienbilder weltweit.
